SCHEDULED MORNING ITEMS

PRESENTATIONS

    9:00 a.m. - bos -  Proclamation Proclaiming May 29-June 1, 2008 as "Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall Week" in San Joaquin County.  Ron Green, San Joaquin County Veterans Service Officer, informed the Board of the schedule of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall in Stockton.  Tino Adame and Cary Martin also addressed the Board on this matter.

9:00 a.m. - bos - Recognition of Weldon H. Burson, Retired S.T.A.R.S. Coordinator. Recognition of Mr. Burson was continued to May 27, 2008.

9:00 a.m. - bos - Oral Presentation by Terry Sonnefeld, Advocacy Committee Chairperson, San Joaquin County Commission on Aging.  Mr. Sonnefeld thanked Chairman Vogel for attending their last Commission on Aging meeting.  Mr. Sonnefeld expressed his concern on how senior citizens will be affected by the budget process.  Lastly, Mr. Sonnefeld read a resolution passed by the Commission on Aging on March 3, 2008 requesting that the Board of Supervisors be prepared to seek and use funds from various sources to compensate for the shortage of funds to the Department of Aging for the sustaining, maintaining, protection and caring for senior citizens of San Joaquin County.  Chairman Vogel informed Mr. Sonnefeld that the resolution had been given to the County Administrator.

Chairman Vogel announced that the Board would vote after they had discussed both of the Discussion General Government Items.

1.                  cao - Approval of Public Art for the  Administration Building.  Gabe Karam, Capital Projects Director, and Artist Scott Runion reported on the public art for the new Administration Building.  B-08-527

2.                  fac/mgmt - Approval of the Micke Grove Zoo Master Plan.  Craig Ogata, Facilities Management Director, David Walsh, Senior Consultant of Schultz & Williams, and Lee Engler of WDM Architects made a presentation and responded to questions by Board Members.  B-08-528

General Government #1 – Approved Staff Recommendation.                          Gutierrez/Ruhstaller/4; Mow-Absent

General Government #2 - Approved Staff Recommendation and requested the Chairman to form a committee to begin working with the Zoological Society and others.  Gutierrez/Ruhstaller/4; Mow-Absent

PUBLIC COMMENT

ToCan Nguyen addressed the Board.

Frank Lucas addressed the Board regarding Evergreen Professional Hypnotherapy and the services offered by this business.

Dana Cowell informed the Board of the San Joaquin Council of Governments scheduled public workshops as part of the San Joaquin County Blueprint process. 

Cary Martin expressed his support of the resolution presented to the Board by Mr. Terry Sonnefeld.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS

Supervisor Gutierrez commented that the restrooms should be kept clean during the time events are scheduled at the Arch Road Sports Complex.  Supervisor Gutierrez also requested new FEMA Floodplain Maps and asked for a staff report on what budget impacts, if any, will have on Students in Prevention of the Office of Substance Abuse.

Chairman Vogel introduced Mark Fitzgerald, an 8th grade student who is interested in politics.  In addition to spending time with Chairman Vogel and attending the Board Meeting, Mark also attended a Town Hall Meeting.
