Consent Item:               #14 - Pulled for discussion. County Counsel Terrence Dermody   explained that there were a couple of corrections to be made to the documentation regarding the agreement.  He also stated that there were two duplicate types of formats of the agreement, simply because the County Recorder preferred the format handed to Board Members at the Board Meeting.  Public Works Deputy Director Tom Gau pointed out technical discrepancies in the original contract before the Board approved the item.  Sieglock/Mow/5

COMMUNICATIONS

bos -    Received and Referred all Board Communications this date as Outlined on the Communications Distribution Listing.  Sieglock/Mow/5  B-06-901

Supervisor Gutierrez asked the Clerk of the Board about the letter received by the City of Stockton regarding the AMR.  The communication was in “Communications” of  the 8/8/06 Board Meeting.

 

 

 

PUBLIC COMMENT

Dora Rendulic, Kenneth Williams, Jr. and Maya Rendulic addressed the Board regarding the Students in Prevention Program.  In response to Supervisor Gutierrez, Christiane Roceli gave an update on the Students in Prevention Program.  Ms. Roceli also informed the Board of their annual banquet on September 22, 2006.

 

County Counsel Terrence Dermody stated that Consent Calendar Health & Human Services #1 had been continued from the August 1, 2006 Board Meeting at the request of Cary Martin.  Mr. Dermody reported that this type of contract did not require to be referred to the Mental Health Board prior to coming before the Board for approval.  Mr. Cary Martin addressed the Board.

 

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS

Supervisor Ornellas requested the status of a burglary that occurred at the Airport Terminal recently and the status of the hiring of the Security Guard Firm and two new officers at the airport.  Supervisor Ornellas stated that he understood that Chief Operations Officer Mike Brooks was retiring.  He wanted to know what the process would be to replace Mr. Brooks and when would his retirement be in effect. 

Supervisor Ornellas stated that he had received a letter from Mr. Edward Swiden regarding safety retirement.  Mr. Swiden was informed that park rangers do not qualify for safety retirement.  Supervisor Ornellas requested a report on what employees qualify for safety retirement and what is it that qualifies them.  County Administrator Manuel Lopez stated that a letter had been sent to Mr. Swiden that answers the question Mr. Swiden brought to the Board. 

Lastly, Supervisor Ornellas said that he had sent a memorandum to the Board regarding the discussion of a buffer around the airport that will be discussed at the August 22, 2006 Board Meeting.

Supervisor Steve Gutierrez brought up the matter of the letter received by Board Members from the City of Stockton regarding AMR.  He expressed that he would like this letter to move quickly through the system in order to obtain answers to questions raised in the letter. 

Supervisor Gutierrez also requested an update on the In-Home Supportive Service negotiations.

Chairman Marenco said that he had sent a copy of the letter from the City of Stockton to Director of Health Care Services Ken Cohen and EMS Administrator Dan Burch.

Supervisor Gutierrez thanked the Board for funding San Joaquin General Hospital’s Healthy Smiles Program.

Chairman Marenco stated that the discussion regarding the airport scheduled for August 22 will remain on the agenda for that date.
