BOARD OF SUPERVISORS QUESTIONS AND
COMMENTS
Supervisor Ornellas mentioned the good news of Allegiant Airlines
beginning service out of the Stockton Metropolitan Airport to Las Vegas. In this regard, he brought up several
concerns regarding the status of new fire safety equipment that the Board
previously approved to purchase, including training required for the equipment,
and the matter to pursue a grant for new equipment through Congressman
Cardoza’s office. Supervisor Ornellas
also wanted an update on the terminal remodeling as Air Mexico wanted to start
in 6 months. Lastly, he stated that the 5/2/06 Stockton Record Editorial
mentioned two Mexican air carriers.
Supervisor Ornellas asked what do they know that we don’t know - is
there going to be a second one? County
Administrator Manuel Lopez stated that the Airport Director would be giving the
Board a report at the Board Meeting of Tuesday, May 9, 2006.
Supervisor Sieglock stated that he read in the Escalon Times that one of
the candidates for Sheriff-Coroner is going to promote term limits for the
Sheriff next year. He said that he would
rather not wait until next year and would like the matter as a discussion
agenda item. County Counsel Terrence
Dermody replied that perhaps the Board would like input from Counsel on the
legal liability of term limits for the Sheriff.
Supervisor Gutierrez reported on the peaceful march held on May 1, 2006
through downtown Stockton that was well attended with a cross section of the
community. Supervisor Gutierrez also
commented on reading news in the newspaper prior to being informed by a Department
Head.
