PRESENTATIONS

9:00 a.m. - bos - Proclamation Proclaiming the Month of October 2004 as "Domestic Violence Awareness Month" in San Joaquin County.  Kellie Brundson of the Women’s Center addressed the Board on this matter.

9:00 a.m. - bos - Proclamation Proclaiming the Month of October 2004 as "Eligibility Worker Recognition Month" in San Joaquin County.   Lynette Marston, President of the San Joaquin Chapter of National Eligibility Workers, addressed the Board on this matter.

9:00 a.m. - bos - Presentation of the American Public Works Association 2004 Public Works Project of the Year Award, Environmental Project, Division 2, for Mountain House Wicklund Village.  Paul Sensibaugh, General Manager of the  Mountain House Community Services District presented a plaque to the Board.

PUBLIC COMMENT

Blaine Hill addressed the Board regarding a dirt mound located on property at Wilkerson Way and Valpico Road that is presenting a serious visibility/traffic problem.  

An employee of  City Centre Theaters addressed the Board and stated that he would be singing the National Anthem at the Sacramento Kings basketball game on October 31. 

 

   

 

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS

Supervisor Mow commented on an article he had read in the San Francisco Chronicle regarding the infant mortalility rate.  He was surprised that the 95202 zip code in our area had the third highest infant mortality rate in the state.  Supervisor Mow stated that he would like to see this rate turned around with the current resources in our county. 

Supervisor Gutierrez suggested other counties be surveyed in gathering information for the process of hiring Legislative Assistants.  

Supervisor Gutierrez commented on county department heads keeping up on issues of the telephone system and courtesy to constituents. Additionally, he suggested that department heads remind staff in their respective departments that employees be more aware of making racial and discriminatory remarks in the workplace.

Supervisor Sieglock asked when the report on the inmate welfare trust that he had requested a couple of months ago would be forthcoming.  County Administrator Manuel Lopez stated that it will be coming to the Board within three weeks.

Supervisor Sieglock stated the he would like to receive the information he requested earlier in the meeting regarding the Legislative Assistants.

Supervisor Sieglock commented on a letter he had received from Gary Giovanetti regarding a regional transit impact fee.  He would like to see this matter on a future agenda for discussion and Supervisor Mow concurred.

County Counsel Terry Dermody clarified for Supervisor Gutierrez the matters that could be discussed in closed session and/or in open Board meetings regarding Legislative Assistants.   

Chairman Ornellas commented on the heavy traffic in Tracy and provided more information regarding the matter Mr. Blaine Hill had addressed under Public Comment.
