#7 – Supervisor Gutierrez stated that the most important part of this program is the academic component. He asked that staff come forward to address the measurement of success of this program and said that he would like to have staff report back to the Board in the future. Judith Jones of the Human Services Agency addressed this matter and explained that this program is designed to assist 100 high-risk children between the ages of 12 and 16 years old.

Supervisor Sieglock stated that this is a very expensive program and that there are many hard-working men and women paying so much in taxes that they cannot afford to have their children participate in any educational or musical program. He added that there needs to be a more efficient way to deliver this type of program.

Chairman Mow clarified that this matter before the Board was an eight month extension of the contract with no additional dollars being applied. Chairman Mow also stated that he would have preferred a boys and girls choir as there are girls that are in need of this type of program.

Supervisor Marenco indicated that this is a good preventive program which reaches out to those children who need it the most and who do not have the parental guidance. He emphasized that this program is a good expenditure of our dollars.

Approved by separate motion.
