BOARD OF SUPEVISORS

TUESDAY, AUGUST 27, 2002

PRESENT: SUPERVISORS BEDFORD, SIEGLOCK, GUTIERREZ, MARENCO, MOW

Minutes of the Board of Supervisors' Meeting of August 20, 2002. Gutierrez/Marenco/5 Approved. B-02-1065

Consent Items: #5 & 6 – Pulled for discussion

Consent Item: #5 - Supervisor Gutierrez expressed concern on the structure of this program. He stressed that he did not want to compromise any ability to obtain Prop. 36 funding. However, he felt the structure of the program needed to be re-evaluated.

Supervisor Marenco indicated that he would like to delay this matter for two weeks.

Supervisor Sieglock suggested that this item be a matter for Board discussion at an upcoming meeting and recommended that the Board go forward with the program in order that clients can receive rehabilitation.

Chairman Mow concurred with Supervisor Sieglock and stated that he had no problem in the matter coming back to the Board for discussion.

The Board approved a motion by Supervisor Gutierrez to approve Consent Item #5, and directed the Chairman to form an ad hoc committee of Supervisors Gutierrez and Marenco, supported by Health Care Services Director Roger Speed, and a representative from the County’s Administrator’s Office, to come back to the Board with recommendations and a report regarding the structure of the RTC Women’s Detox Center.

Consent Item: #6 - In response to Supervisor Gutierrez’ inquiry as to the status of past participants in this program, Human Services Agency Director John Vera, reported that five employees, including two from Mental Health, graduated from the program and are now working as Master Degree Social Workers.

Consent Items: #1--26: Approved. Gutierrez/Bedford/5
