BOARD OF SUPERVISORS QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS
Supervisor Gutierrez inquired about his request at a
previous Board Meeting that the Interim Health Care Services Director or the
Interim Mental Health Director report to the Board regarding a recent meeting
held at Mental Health to discuss concerns about the ratio of staff/clients.
Supervisor Gutierrez requested clarification of a communication dated 10/8/01
received from the Interim County Administrator regarding the law firm of Kronick,
Moskovitz, Tiedemann & Girard and its reference to "release as a
potential conflict of interest," and asked if this was a common practice
with every firm that the County may retain. The County Administrator and County
Counsel confirmed that this is a general practice and meets the rule of
professional conduct.
Lastly, Supervisor Gutierrez emphasized his past and continuing concerns of the
parking problems on California Street with the Family Support Division, and
that the County needs to aggressively tackle this issue as the problem
continues to worsen. He informed the Board that he would be meeting with Judy
Grimes of the Family Support Division on Thursday, 10/11/01, to discuss and
outline issues that the Interim County Administrator and Board can review. The
Interim County Administrator indicated that a report would be forthcoming to
the Board within a week or two and assured Supervisor Gutierrez that Facilities
Management is looking at a number of alternatives to address the issues.
Supervisor Bedford expressed his concern of inadequate
drainage off of the Logistics business park that may cause major flooding of
the rural roads which would affect thousands of commuters. The Interim County
Administrator said that he would have the Interim Public Works Director report
back to the Board with a plan to address this matter prior to the rainy season.
Supervisor Mow asked whether or not the County is communicating and working
with the proper authorities regarding the current heightened issues of security
and safety. The Interim County Administrator informed the Board that the Office
of Emergency Services is in continuous contact with the State Office of
Emergency Services. He added that the Sheriff's Department is on security alert
and the Department Heads are well aware of the issues and he will also discuss
the subject at a scheduled Department Heads meeting on 10/11/01. Chairman
Marenco indicated that the Sheriff has deputies at the airport.
The second item Supervisor Mow brought to the attention of the Board is the
matter of previous Board discussion regarding the distribution of Planning
Commissioners and what effect that might have as a result of redistricting.
Supervisor Mow said that he would share with Board Members information received
from County Counsel in order that this item can be reviewed by the Board in the
near future.
