BOARD OF SUPERVISORS QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS

Supervisor Steve Gutierrez brought to the attention of the Board concerns of the downtown hotel/motel owners who house approximately 1, 000 General Relief clients at a substantially low rate.  They are requesting the Board of Supervisors to consider increasing the General Relief rate for San Joaquin County.  Supervisor Gutierrez added that there are other methods of housing the General Relief clients and that the Human Services Agency (HSA) and County Administrator’s Office need to explore these areas.  Supervisor Gutierrez requested that a committee be formed to look into increasing the General Relief rate and exploring other methods of housing for General Relief Clients.  HSA and the County Administrator were requested to report back to the Board at their meeting of April 24 regarding the formation of a committee, and to also appoint a Board Member to serve on said committee.

Supervisor Victor Mow commented on the earthquake insurance.  FEMA is requiring that all public buildings have earthquake insurance. His concern is that it was removed from the budget and how could we get that put back on the budget.
