NAME: MENTAL HEALTH BOARD

COMPENSATION: None. Reimbursement for Regional or Statewide Meeting may be compensated by the local Mental Health Agency when funding is available.

LEGAL AUTHORITY: Welfare & Institutions Code Section 5604 (Amended 11/’92) & Board Order B-93-422 dated 3/23/93.

MEMBERSHIP, QUALIFICATIONS, & RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: Must be a resident of San Joaquin County. 11 Members - 1 Person must be a representative of the Board of Supervisors; 50% of the Membership must be consumers or parents, spouse, sibling or adult children of consumers of services, who are received or have received mental health services. At least 20% of the members shall be families of consumers.

TERM: 3 Year Terms with the requirement that terms shall be equitably staggered so that approximately 1/3 of the appointments shall expire annually.

DUTIES:

A) To review & evaluate the community’s Mental Health needs, services, facilities, & special problems.

B) To review any County agreement entered into pursuant to Section 5650.

C) To advise the governing body & the local Mental Health Director as to any aspect of the local Mental Health Program.

D) To review & approve the procedures used to insure citizen & professional involvement at all stages of the planning process.

E) To submit an Annual Report to the governing body on the needs & performance of the County’s Mental Health System.

F) To review & make recommendations on applications for the appointment of a local Mental Health Director.

G) To review & comment on the County’s performance outcome data & communicate it’s findings to the State Mental Health Commission.

H) To accept additional duties or responsibilities transferred by the governing body.

MEETING DATE & LOCATION: 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Mental Health Center, 1212 N. California Street, at 7:00 p.m., Stockton, CA, & Other Meetings as may be called by the Chairperson.
