NAME: KENNEDY COMMUNITY CENTER ADVISORY BOARD

COMPENSATION: No per diem or actual expenses.

LEGAL AUTHORITY: Non-mandated citizen advisory group established by the County Community Action Agency (CAA). Board Order B-88-865 dated 6/21/88, established the composition of the advisory body & defined the terms of office for the members of the advisory group.

MEMBERSHIP, QUALIFICATIONS, & RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: 7 Members appointed by the Board of Supervisors. All members must reside in the Kennedy Community Center service area (North: Charter Way; South: Sperry Road east onto Arch/Airport Road; East: Highway 99; West: Southern Pacific Railroad south to Crossover with Western Pacific Railroad, south on Western Pacific Railroad) & be at least 16 years of age. 4 Members must be Low-Income residents; 2 members are representatives of community service organizations or groups which operate in the center’s service area; 1 member is an At-Large appointee interested in community action & concerned about the problems of poverty. The membership should represent, to the extent possible, a mix of age, ethnicity, & sex reflecting the population of the community center service area.

TERM: 2 Year Terms.

DUTIES: To study, review, evaluate & make recommendations, as an advisory body to the Community Action Agency Advisory Board (CAB) on matters relating to poverty in San Joaquin County. To serve as the advisory council to the Kennedy Community Center. Specific functions of the center advisory board include:

A) To assist the CAA in needs assessment
B) To advise the CAA in setting program priorities
C) To participate in the development of annual work programs
D) To review & comment on proposed projects & policies
E) To participate in evaluating center programs
F) To play an effective role in the coordination of services at the local level
G) To assist in mobilization of community resources
H) To serve as a community link to CAA Board of Directors regarding problems & needs of the poor in the service area.
I) To serve as an advocate for the low-income community of the service area.

MEETING DATE & LOCATION: 4th Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m., Kennedy Community Center, 2800 S. "D" Street, Stockton, CA.
