NAME: Children and Families First Commission
COMPENSATION: None, except for reimbursement of reasonable expenses for attending meetings & discharging other official responsibilities as authorized by the Commission.
LEGAL AUTHORITY: California Health & Safety Code Division 108 (commencing with Section 130100); Board Order B-98-1505 & 1510 dated 12/8/98; Board Order B-98-1561 7 Ordinance #4008 dated 12/15/98; Board Order B-99-84 dated 1/19/99; and Board Order B-99-102 & Ordinance #4011 dated 1/26/99.
MEMBERSHIP, QUALIFICATIONS, & RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS:
- Recipients of project services included in the County Strategic Plan;
- Educators specializing in early childhood development;
- Representatives of a local organization for prevention or early intervention for families at risk;
- Representatives of community-based organizations that have the goal of promoting, nurturing & early childhood development;
- Representative of local school districts;
- Representatives of local medical, pediatric,or obstetric associations or societies;
- The County Health Officer and persons responsible for management of the following County functions: children's services, public health services, behavioral health services, social services, and tobacco and other substance abuse prevention & treatment services.
TERM: 4 year term, except for the Board Member, County Public Health Services Director, & County Human Services Agency who are Permanent Members. Initial term for appointees shall be staggered.
DUTIES: To develop and recommend a Strategic Plan for support & improvement of early childhood development consistent with Children & Families First Act of 1998 (Proposition 10).
