NAME: AGING COMMISSION
COMPENSATION: None. Commissioners costs of parking at city lots during regular Meetings are borne by the San Joaquin County Department of Aging & Community Services.
LEGAL AUTHORITY: Board Order B-77-980 dated May 17, 1977, establishing the composition of the Commission. Resolution R-77-1188 dated June 21, 1977, established a Commission on Aging as Advisory to the Board of Supervisors. Resolution R-79-1437 dated July 24, 1979, defined terms of office for members of the Commission. Board Order B-81-95 dated January 13, 1981, revised composition of membership of the Commission to comply with Requirements of the Older Californians Act. Board appointment format: 5 Members from each District; 4 Members BOS At- Large; 5 Agencies serving Seniors; 7 Member Cities; 1 Representative for the Disabled or Handicapped. Board Order B-91-1211 dated August 6, 1991, authorized modifications in the Appointment format for the Commission.
MEMBERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS, & RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: 22 Total Members: 10 members appointed by the BOS (5 members - 1 from each District; 4 members At-Large; 1 representative for the Disabled or Handicapped); 1 member appointed by each of the following City Councils - Stockton, Lodi, Tracy, Manteca, Ripon, Escalon, & Lathrop; 5 representatives of agencies serving Seniors: SJC Human Services Agency, SJC Health Care Services, Housing Authority of San Joaquin County, Social Security Administration, & Long-Term Care Services. Demonstrate interest in matters affecting older people. Must be a resident of San Joaquin County.
TERM: 3 year term to expire June 30th of last year of term.
DUTIES: Study, review, evaluate & make recommendations, as an advisory body to the Board of Supervisors on all matters affecting older people in San Joaquin County. Serve as an advisory council to the Department of Aging on all matters affecting older people in the County, & act as their principal advocate. Act as the SJC Long-Term Care Coordinating Council/Adult Day Health Care Planning Council, & serve as an advisory body to the Board of Supervisors on matters of long-term care.
MEETING DATE LOCATION: 1st Monday monthly at 1:30 p.m. with the EXCEPTION of August & when no meeting is held. If a meeting falls on a legal holiday, it is held on the first business day following. Human Services Agency, Conference Room "C", 5th Floor, 102 S. San Joaquin Street, Stockton.
