Underground Storage Tanks (UST)

The purpose of this program is to protect public health and the environment from exposure to hazardous materials stored in underground storage tanks (USTs). The primary focus is on protection of groundwater from contamination. Activities include inspection, permitting, monitoring, repair, installation and removal of USTs. UST sites with identified contamination are referred to the EHD Site Mitigation Unit for cleanup oversight.

Authority: California Health and Safety Code Section 25280 et seq.; California Code of Regulations Title 23, Section 2620 et seq.; San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors Resolution R-84-513.
Funding: Construction, Removal and Repair Permit Fees, Annual Operating Permit Fees, Hourly Rate and Service Fees.
Clients/Customers: Business Owners/Operators, Agricultural Operations, Public Agencies, Property Owners, Contractors, Environmental Consultants, Lending Institutions, General Public.
Workload: 751 tanks at 298 active UST Facilities.
